Since 2001, we have worked with our partners to achieve the following successes:
- Helped the Puget Sound Shared Strategy, a broad coalition of public agencies and private organizations working on a Sound-wide recovery plan for salmon, develop a widely endorsed fundraising strategy to raise $120 million per year for salmon projects.
- Worked with Seattle Public Utilities management and staff to develop an external fundraising strategy and write grant and loan proposals that have raised more than $20 million in funding for habitat, stormwater, and water quality projects.
- Worked with the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation to expand the Community Salmon Fund, a small grants program for community-based habitat restoration programs, from a $400,000 program in a single county to a $3.3 million statewide program. More than 100 grants will be awarded through the program this year.
- Helped the Tri-County coalition, an alliance of three counties and four cities in the central Puget Sound region, develop and execute successful federal and state lobbying agendas to raise money for salmon recovery. The programs supported have provided more than $15 million for projects in the region in the four-year period.
- Helped organizations and agencies throughout the region write successful proposals for the Salmon Recovery Funding Board, Aquatic Lands Enhancement Account, Clean Water State Revolving Fund, Drinking Water State Revolving Fund, Cooperative Endangered Species Conservation Fund, Public Works Trust Fund, and many other funding programs.
- Developed concepts for reforming environmental mitigation policy and practices in Washington in collaboration with a 45-member advisory group that represented all major state and federal permitting agencies and major public and private sector developers.
- Designed and ran the Pioneers in Conservation grant program to support conservation projects on farms in the Puget Sound region.
